Mandatory Coaching License Requirements

  In order to obtain coaches cards or coaches credentials, coaches and trainers are required to complete the mandatory Foundations Of Coaching Level 2 Diploma. This course is a prerequisite starting at U9 for all coaches to meet the mandatory coaching license requirements. The LIJSL/United Soccer Coaches Foundations of Coaching Level 2 Diploma is a four-hour, in-person course designed to provide coaches with the necessary tools to develop their coaching skills.

The Foundations of Coaching Level 2 Diploma course places a strong emphasis on the two “S’s of development” – skills and soccer. Coaches will learn the difference between a drill and a player-centered activity, as well as age-appropriate activities that relate to a player’s physical, cognitive, and mental development. The course also covers how to develop activities that foster skill development and includes discussions on the principles of play, tactics, and strategy.
